2024 January Newsletter

Dear Partners

January is usually considered to be a time of new resolutions, new beginnings, or projects to attempt, with the old year and all its baggage safely disposed of. But that is not how it often works out, as we are still the same, with all the problems and challenges we face right on our heels or looming large in front of us.

In Col 4:2, Paul encourages us to “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.”

Many of our pastors and their congregations take the time to start the new year, devoting themselves to prayer and fasting, seeking God for plans and solutions – Mostly their prayers revolve around seeking God’s hand –but here are a couple of prayer requests for us to get behind, in which we can all seek His face.

“My prayer request is that you pray for unity and the spirit of working together in the church this year 2024.”  Zambia

“Keep on praying for us for the gospel to move forward. To win only one soul in a Moslem community is

great achievement in the kingdom.” Pastor Vasco – Malawi

“Our goals this 2024 that we can build a cottage prayer and bible study so that our faith in the Lord will be strong and our spiritual life will grow in the Lord.” Pastor Freddie – Philippines.

As reported in a previous update, we were able to send over $2,000 to Indonesia to bless 10 pastors to help them to be self-sufficient. Goats are relatively easy to keep and can be very productive, thus ensuring milk and meat for the pastor and his family, while also providing some income from the increase.

Transporting livestock is a huge challenge, and travelling in Africa, it is very common to see goats riding on top of overcrowded buses. In Indonesia, they have them travelling on motor bikes – all totally unacceptable by today’s standards. However, goats can really bond with their owners and I’m sure this goat has a smile too!

A heartfelt Thank you to those who blessed pastors with goats.

Psalm 16:7-9 “I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel; I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right  hand I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope.”

May this also be our prayer and heart as we journey into 2024.
